Do I need to have football knowledge or have played football before?
Not at all! Our league welcomes players of all experience levels, including people brand new to the sport. Each team will have an offensive and defensive captain and many veteran players who will mentor new players. The DGLFFL will also host several player development events, including a League Wide Practice, a New Player Orientation (aimed at league members in their first and second seasons), and a Skills Clinic.
Do I need to sign up with a team? Can I sign up with a friend?
The DGLFFL is a draft league, so players sign up as individual free agents and are drafted to a team by our captains. This does mean, however, that you cannot request to be on a specific team or play with a particular player.
Do I have to identify as LGBTQIA+ to participate in the league?
We believe football is for everybody and strive to create an inclusive environment that embraces diversity, competition, and positive community. You do not need to identify as LGBTQIA+ to join our league, but you must consider yourself an ally of the community. Sportsmanship and treating all league members with respect are at the core of our Code of Conduct.
Do I need my own football equipment or uniform to participate?
The DGLFFL will provide flags and regulation footballs to each team. Part of your registration fee includes a team jersey that will be distributed before Game 1 at our Jersey Release Party. Individual players are responsible for bringing their own pocketless shorts. Football gloves, mouth guards, and cleats are highly encouraged (but the cleats must be non-metal).
